Fellow travelers know when it comes to traveling and traveling a lot saving money is always a top priority. The more you save, the more you can do on your trip. One of the top expenses in traveling can be finding where to stay. Staying with family and friends can most definitely cut the cost, but this doesn’t always work when: 1- you're bringing other people and 2- sometimes you just want your own spot. Both of these were the case this time when I traveled to Miami, So the searching commenced for me.
When choosing a property there are many outlets and options to look at. Hotels and resorts are the obvious first routes. I also had the option of using a timeshare that my parents have, but the closest available was maybe an hour and a half from my intended destination, and not favorable for me. I had heard much hooblah of AirBnB before, but never actually used it. So I thought this would be the perfect time to try something new. At outset, when I first went on the website I must confess I was a tad bit confused, but about 15 minutes in and after making an account it became more understandable. What I ended up doing was making a wish list for my trip. I put the dates in that I needed and every property that was available popped up. The website has filters that aid in narrowing your search based on what you are looking for; Room type (room in house, shared room, entire home), Price range, size (number of bedrooms, bathrooms, beds), neighborhoods, and amenities. So whether you’re looking for something extremely specific or just basics it can be easily found. So I put in my criteria, a 2 to 3bedroom entire home sleeping 3 persons, located centrally in Miami between $300 and $700 a night and all the properties that I liked I added to my wish list. The next step was to choose a house. The ability to send your wish list is an awesome additive. I sent it, to the others accompanying on the trip to help decide. Another helpful aspect of the website is the capability to message the property owners. I would strongly encourage doing so, especially if you have any concerns or question about the location or property. Of course some respond quicker than others, but this also shows how quick they will respond if you have issues once you get to your destination. One thing to watch out for are the hidden fees and details. Some places do have extra cleaning fee, safety deposits, and taxes that are not included in the general price. Also be sure to read the house rules. Some declare outlines of what can and can not be done in the house. I.E. no parties, outside guests, extra sleepers, pets, smoking, drinking, check in times etc. Once booked, I received weekly updates from AirBnB on the status of my booking and tips that were relevant. I also liked the fact the owner did extra follow ups until my arrival to ensure I arrived safely and the house was to my liking. Overall using AirBnB served its purpose for the trip, and it came out cheaper than a hotel. I will most definitely be using it again very soon.
